ROOTing An Android Phone May VOID Its Warranty
- by Joe Jr Yamut
In case you didn’t know, tampering with your Android phone may void its warranty!
I am not a lawyer. This is just my own opinion. However, common sense will tell us that any form of tampering will normally void a device’s warranty. From experience, I’ve had my warranty voided more than once because of curiosity, stupidity and ignorance.
What can be construed as “tampering” may include altering or modifying any or all parts of its hardware and/or software that was not intended to be manipulated by the end user.
If there is a warranty seal in there, if you’re more of the hardware tinkerer, better not break that seal buddy. Even that red dot or “water damage” can void the warranty. Remember too, that not all countries are as “accommodating” to their customers as the US, so be careful.
ROOTing the phone, like with the z4root which is as simple as installing the app and running it, while it doesn’t really alter anything except for putting in the binaries it does alter your phone behaviour through those binaries, this may then lead to rooted apps that can make the whole system unstable and further lead the device to not function properly and other possible system failures.
Please check with your corresponding phone manufacturer or retailer for warranty details since it can be different from one case to another.
While the Android OS is free and open-source, it is not the Android OS’ owners (Google) who will shoulder the cost should a warranty claim arise. That falls under the phone manufacturer. This means if you don’t care about the warranty, do whatever you want with your Android smartphone. Otherwise, wait until the warranty expires and install Ubuntu on that phone or flash the ROM.. . whatever works for you. You are held entirely liable for whatever you install on your own phone other than the ones already placed by the manufacturer.
ROOT at your own risk! 😉
